I just copied this from the hammock forum I mentioned. It has breaking strengths of the common ropes used for whoopie slings. The paracord breaking strength might be too close to what you'd actually see in real life using it. That's not say you can't use it, just be aware of it and pay attention.

7/64 Amsteel Blue is generally considered the standard for average weight hangers. Some hangers that are willing to except a lower margin of safety use Dynaglide and some use 1/8 Amsteel Blue for a higher margin of safety.

Dynaglide - min breaking strength = 850 lbs / avg breaking strength = 1000 lbs

7/64 Amsteel Blue - min breaking strength = 1400 lbs / avg breaking strength = 1600 lbs

1/8 Amsteel Blue - min breaking strength = 2300 lbs / avg breaking strength =2500 lbs

With perfect splicing, new rope and proper usage including paying attention to minimum bend diameter, figure ~20% loss of strength for the amsteel whoopie and at least that for the
dynaglide.

These are breaking strengths, not safe working loads, so use you own judgement.

I got mine from rei online years ago. $30 for them. They have been awesome and show no wear and tear at all over tears of use.

I've seen the Atlas straps at ****'s, Bass Pro (I'm pretty sure), and that "Outfitters" place at the old mall in Macon. They were all like $30, if I remember correctly.

Sweet, that's how you do it!

I sold my old Klein mountain bike (maybe I need to change my username?!?!?) and I've used some of that money to get my backpacking gear up to more current standards (verses the 20 year old stuff I have). I ordered a tarp for the hammock last week, but don't expect to see it for another week or two, as they are basically made when you order them. It's from one of the "cottage" vendors on Hammock Forums, as they are called. I'm looking forward to getting it; it's a cuben fiber version with doors!

Put the eno up at jeep beach and got tons of pics taken as jeeps passed. Got a feeling there may be more hammocks at the beach next year!
