I ordered a new radiator cap from the dealer in Perry. They'll have it tomorrow, and I'll see if that makes a difference. If not, I'll escalate to a water pump and t-stat.

Checking the coolant for signs of combustion gases probably isn't a bad idea, even though I'm not seeing any other evidence of that being a problem.

You don't have one of those bug guards in front of the grill do you? Did you burp it to make sure there are no air pockets? If you haven't burped, I'd do that first. It's quick and fairly painless. Just need a funnel and some duct tape. If that doesn't fix, I'd say the radiator needs replacing. Getting hot when not moving and getting hot at highway speeds are two totally different things. When not moving, it's usually an airflow problem across the radiator. At highway speeds, you have all the air your radiator could ever want and most likely a coolant flow issue due to a bad thermostat, air pockets, or a collapsed radiator.

New radiators aren't that expensive. Might be slightly different but the one for my YJ was like $50 and the all aluminum one I just bought for a V8 swap off Amazon was under $130.

Id check the coolant and see if exhaust gas is getting in. Use this or test strips. If it passes I'd replace the water pump and thermostat.

Same thing happened to Erin's TJ... It was actually boiling over on the trail. Recommendations that I found were to flush the system and change the cap.

Did that solve it for her? I've already flushed it, but didn't change the cap. It's not a big deal to throw a new one at to see if it helps.

I haven't been in any hurry to even get to it yet. That's just what I've came across.

Let's establish some groups and plans with this ride right around the corner.

1. Who all is planning on going?
2. Do we need to split groups for skill level?

1. Amy and I are going, 1 Jeep
2. James and Erin, 1 Jeep
3. Rob, 1 Jeep
4. Mark and friend Keith, 2 Jeeps
5. Mike (solo), 1 Jeep
