The ONLY reason to let them do your first oil change is b/c its free. I took mine in this month for its first change and laughed when I read the "checklist" they say they did. In one block it said they checked tire pressure. when I got in the low pressure light was still on. I'm also not sure if the stuff they filled my washer bottle with is actual washer fluid.

All that being said they were quick, nice and professional and they were quite busy doing a lot of WJ recalls. But I personally never trust the dealer for service because they are usually over priced and to many bad experiences in the past.

I have been using Xpress Lube on Watson (next to Autozone) for a few years now and have always been treated good there. they throw in a "free" car wash with oil changes which I'm sure they upcharge you for it but hey I don't have to wash it. Plus I'm one of those guys who run synthetic oil and they carry it there.

if you take it to a dealer use macon. James is the service manager up there and a member of the forum. good guy.

JKs are really easy to do yourself tho. the filter is on top of the engine and is a cartridge type. if you get a fumoto valve for the oil pan it will make all future ones super simple.

Hadn't even thought of that. Does it simply screw into the oil pan in place of the drain plug?

yep. Ivans got one. (took mine when it wouldnt clear my skid plate.) you just hook a hose over it and drain it into the bottle then swap the filter and fill it back up.

I'll never let Five Star touch my Jeep. I use Jeff Smith in Perry. Never had an issue with them and they're a lot closer to me than Macon. Word to the wise, if you change your own, be very gentle with the filter housing. It's plastic and will crack if you over tighten it. That results in a fountain of oil in your engine compartment. Yes, I speak from experience

Using the valve is the easiest oil change I have ever done.  I wish I could put one on all my vehicles.  No hot oil on the hands, no digging out the drain plug, no mess.
